Major fashion company Kering has confirmed that a cyber attack on its network is impacting customers of its brands, which include Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Gucci, Ulysse Nardin, Yves Saint Laurent, and more.

In a statement, Kering confirmed that the breach, which it identified in June, occurred when “an unauthorised third party gained temporary access to our systems and accessed limited customer data from some of our houses”.

While the company did not disclose how many were impacted by the cyber attack, which brands in particular were affected, or the threat actor behind the incident, the cyber attack was claimed by the now allegedly retired Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters group.

Cyber Daily has not observed specific details around the Kering cyber attack, but in its retirement message, Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters named Kering, saying that the company is yet to receive any ransom demands as the threat group failed to follow through on many of its recent network intrusions.

“Will Kering, Air France, American Airlines, British Airlines, and among many other critical infrastructure face a data breach? I’d wonder too if I was them, as they know some have yet to receive any demand for ransom – or anything else,” the threat group spokesperson said.

“Are their data currently being exploited, whilst US, UK, AU, and French authorities fill themselves with the illusions they have gotten the situation under control?”

While Kering appears to be a relatively new victim, reporting from DataBreaches.net noted that Kering was revealed as a victim of a ShinyHunters attack some time in 2024.

“When did Balenciaga, Brioni, Alexander McQueen or Kering first discover this breach, and how did they first discover it? Kering has yet to disclose that,” ShinyHunters recently told DataBreaches.net.

“How many customers were affected? How many have been notified? Kering has yet to disclose that, either.”

The Kering cyber attack follows a major wave of fashion brands hit by data breaches, including Pandora, Victoria’s Secret, Cartier, Dior, and Louis Vuitton, all of which were believed to have been conducted by Scattered Spider, Shiny Hunters, or the joined Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters.
