The Qilin ransomware group has claimed another Australian victim, this time the bespoke app development company DigiGround.
The hackers added the company to their darknet leak site in a post dated 28 August; however, the Qilin affiliate behind the incident has so far deigned to share any details of the incident other than the fact that it allegedly occurred.
DigiGround is actively investigating the hackers’ claims.
“DigiGround has become aware of an unverified claim by the Qilin ransomware group concerning our organisation,” a company spokesperson told Cyber Daily.
“At this stage, we have not identified any evidence that DigiGround’s systems or data have been compromised. We are investigating the claim as a priority and will take any appropriate action should evidence of an incident be identified.
“As the investigation is ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further on the claims at this time.”
Who is Qilin?
Qilin has claimed 2,251 victims since it was first observed in 2022, spread across more than 100 countries. As of the time of writing, it is the most active ransomware operation in existence, averaging about 100 victim listings each month in 2026 so far.
The group operates under a ransomware-as-a-service model, with affiliates gaining access to its ransomware infrastructure in return for a cut of any ransom payments.
While some affiliates will publish complete details of their activities, including the volume of data stolen and screenshots of evidence, others post minimal information, often not going into any detail regarding the data and its contents.
Qilin’s most recent Australian victim was Victoria-based flooring specialist Asset Flooring Group Australia, which fell victim to the group in early August.
Who is DigiGround?
Based in North Sydney, DigiGround is a software and web development company that specialises in mobile app development, graphic design, bespoke projects, and digital marketing.
The company listed several projects on its website, including a website redesign for defence media outlet Asia Pacific Defence Reporter, brand development for Australian entrepreneur Amjad Khanche, and marketing work for property investment firm First Step.
