Lingerie and fashion retailer Victoria’s Secret has been forced to delay its financial results as it focuses on the fallout of the cyber attack it suffered late last month.
Last month, the US lingerie company addressed customers on its website, saying that it was dealing with a “security incident” that led to systems being taken offline.
“Valued customer, we identified and are taking steps to address a security incident. We have taken down our website and some in-store services as a precaution,” the company said.
While the site has since been restored, Victoria’s Secret has said it has been forced to delay its first quarter earnings release as it deals with the aftermath of the cyber incident.
“The incident did not impact the company’s financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2025, which were near or exceeded the high-end of guidance as discussed below,” Victoria’s Secret said in a statement.
“However, the restoration process has prevented employees from accessing certain systems and information needed to support the company’s release of its financial results for the first quarter ended May 3, 2025.
“As a result, the company is postponing the date of its previously announced first quarter 2025 earnings release and earnings call webcast. The company plans to announce a new earnings release and earnings call webcast date in due course.”
While the first quarter earnings were obviously unaffected, Victoria’s Secret said its second quarter or future quarter financial results may be affected by the incident.
“Although this incident has not caused a material disruption to its operations to date, the company has incurred, and may continue to incur, expenses and other financial impacts related to this incident, which could negatively impact its future financial results, including for the second quarter of fiscal 2025,” added Victoria’s Secret.
Victoria’s Secret has yet to disclose details of the incident, including whether or not customers were affected.
At the time of the website outage, Reddit users suspected that the incident could be a ransomware attack or a data breach.
“The original Reddit post also said that all Victoria’s Secret IT workers were off until Thursday. No one allowed to come into the office, or even remote work,” said one user.
“To me, it sounds like a data breach, or possibly even ransom malware.”
However, at this stage, no threat actor has taken responsibility for the incident.
