Anduril has unveiled a new AI-powered helmet and eyewear system, EagleEye, that will equip US soldiers with an integrated system that provides digital vision, centralises command and control, and heightens survivability.

Palmer Luckey, Anduril’s founder, said: “We don’t want to give service members a new tool – we’re giving them a new teammate.

“The idea of an AI partner embedded in your display has been imagined for decades. EagleEye is the first time it’s real.”

Currently, Anduril is delivering programs such as the Army’s Soldier Borne Mission Command and Soldier Borne Mission Command Architecture, with this new tool having the capacity to be integrated alongside these. This will increase situational awareness, mission planning and effectiveness of training tool technologies for operators.

The extensive features of this new system make it “an extremely powerful capability”, according to Luckey. EagleEye’s heads-up display provides the operator with an enhanced view of the landscape in front of them by overlaying digitised screens to the real-world view, operable in both day and night. The tech can further streamline soldier networks by enhancing communication across the battlefield and in restricted environments, as well as tasking unmanned aerial vehicles from mobile positions.

The helmet has the ability to provide ballistic protection and mitigate blast waves, in a lightweight design, making the helmet comfortable for extended wear. Spatial audio and radio frequency detection features allow operators to identify and act on potential threats. It further has rear and flank view sensors to provide optimum awareness. The ergonomic design of the helmet, visor and glasses variations makes the system a technology that is “standard-setting”.

Anduril has partnered with Meta, Oakley, Qualcomm, Gentex, and other commercial organisations to “bring the best in augmented-reality, rugged eyewear, compute, sensing and ballistic helmets to EagleEye”.
