The Australian Indigenous cyber company joins cyber security firm Infoblox to create an “Australian-first” anti-scam capability.
Indigenous cyber security firm Baidam has announced it has partnered with US-based Infoblox to stand up Baidam Takedown Services, an Aussie-first service designed to take down scam websites.
Websites that pose as major brands or government agencies are a key part of many financial scams.
Baidam Takedown Services will use the Domain Name System to take down such sites within a week and will operate out of the company’s Gundan Security Operations Centre in Brisbane.
Jack Reis (pictured), Baidam’s CEO, said that while scams are a threat to any organisation, regional and Indigenous businesses are particularly vulnerable.
“There are parts of Australia where the internet is very new, or not available yet at all,” Reis said in a statement.
“It’s one of the most important resources we can bring to the bush, but lack of experience and education on cyber security and online scams can leave Indigenous people and businesses more vulnerable.
“Together with Infoblox, we’re committed to helping organisations across Australia maintain a secure and trustworthy online presence and quickly mitigate the impact of fraudulent or lookalike websites.”
Scott Morris, Infoblox Australia and New Zealand managing director, said that falling victim to a scam can often lead to more malicious acts at a later date.
“We’re seeing internet fraud playing a more prominent role in how cyber criminals infiltrate organisations in Australia,” Morris said.
“Our takedown service helps companies neutralise fraudulent domains impersonating them for criminal activities. While blocking malicious domains should be a priority for every user, this takedown service lets companies become proactive in defending their good name and customers. We’re incredibly proud to work alongside Baidam as one of the nation’s most trusted cyber security providers to reduce these risks.”
Organisations wanting to use Baidam’s service can learn more here, and also purchase packs of pre-emptive takedowns for dealing with scam websites in the future.
