The business security landscape has become harder to service, with the nature of work changing post-pandemic with the normalisation of hybrid work and working from home (WFH).

As a result, a wider range of devices with an even wider range of security solutions are being relied on to defend against threats that businesses ward off on a sometimes-daily basis.

Proton’s VPN for Business offering comes as enterprises have shown an increased demand for secure VPN solutions designed for business operations.

“Proton VPN’s focus on transparency and security, backed by our open-source philosophy, has made Proton VPN one of the world’s most popular and trusted VPN services, and in recent years, businesses looking for a VPN have increasingly taken note,” said Proton VPN founder and chief executive Andy Yen.

“As a result, even without a dedicated business offering, we have onboarded thousands of business users in the past couple years, so making the offering official today is a natural next step forward for Proton.”

With the need for business leaders to ensure that all devices now part of their organisation’s expanded network are secure, Proton VPN’s new offering rolls out plans that allow businesses to protect employees who are remote, hybrid or travelling by connecting them to secure company servers and sending the internet traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel.

This ensures that employee activity and confidential data remain secure, even over public or untrusted internet connections.

In addition, Proton VPN for Business helps organisations limit access to only networks and devices that can be trusted with private gateways. These gateways can be configured and deployed instantly and limit access to specifically authorised members and groups within an organisation.

Business leaders can limit access to resources based on the gateway, ensuring only those that need those resources to do their job can access them.

Proton’s new offering comes in three plans – Proton VPN Essentials, Proton VPN Business, and Proton VPN Enterprise.

Proton VPN Essentials is reflective of its title, providing businesses with the essential network monitoring features that allow workers to access an organisation’s network from anywhere safely. Ideal for SMEs looking for basic coverage, costing only:

  • Monthly cycle
    • $8.99 monthly
  • Annual cycle
    • $6.99 monthly ($83.88/year)
  • Two-year cycle
    • $5.99 monthly ($71.88/year)

VPN Business enables the use of virtual private gateways and dedicated servers with fixed IP addresses that can be configured to allow access to certain resources only to those who need them. This plan is ideal for organisations worried about the accessibility of specific resources, and it costs:

  • Monthly cycle
    • $11.99 monthly
    • $49.99 per server/month (one server minimum per purchase)
  • Annual cycle
    • $9.99 monthly ($119.88/year)
    • $39.99 per server/month
  • Two-year cycle
    • $8.99 monthly ($107.88/year)
    • $35.99 per server/month

The top-tier plan, Proton VPN Enterprise, is a fully customisable plan designed to be tailored to a specific business. Being a completely custom plan, pricing is on demand and will vary from customer to customer.
