Azcende VC has confirmed that the company has employed Major General (Ret’d) Mick Ryan AM as a strategic advisor, working on using national security and critical venture capital to support emerging technology in Australia.

MAJGEN (Ret’d) Ryan joins the company having served as commander of the Australian Defence College and Commander of the Army’s 1st Brigade and was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia for his leadership within the Australian 1st Reconstruction Task Force in Afghanistan.

He joints Lieutenant General Lawrence Nicholson and founders Alok Patel, Lani Refiti and Matt Yeoh.

“National security and critical infrastructure are particularly important to Australia's sovereignty, furthermore, technologies that are vital for defence and defence industry have the best chance to activate Australia’s potential and bolster our economy, even through economic hardship. Defence is the new mining.

“MAJGEN Ryan’s approach to strategy and strategic development using science fiction was what originally caught my attention with his distinguished experience combined with his leadership and training will allow us to more effectively develop next-generation technology companies, vital for Australia, AUKUS and our key partners. We really are lucky to have him onboard,” Alok Patel, managing partner at Azcende, said.

The venture capital firm operates across cyber security, energy, space, AI and robotics technology.
