The NSW state government recruitment arm, "I work for NSW", has posted the details online in a bid to find a senior, "cluster-wide technology leader" this week.

Established in April 2022, the DEIT will be tasked with positioning NSW as "a leading R&D economy". The first DEIT chief information security officer (CISO) is ranked as a senior executive band two.

While the recruitment call has listed it as temporary for the first 12 months, the CISO is expected to "lead the executive of the department's cyber security strategy and oversee the delivery of information security services", with enthusiastic and motivated qualities, that possess "extensive experience in leading complex enterprise-wide programs".

Back in December 2021, the NSW government first disclosed the plans to set-up DEIT after a new minister for science, innovation and technology, Alister Henskens, had taken on the role.

One of the first planned actions of the new department was to accelerate R&D in order to build on the government's existing action plan.
