CrowdStrike has launched an AI Kill Switch for its Falcon Guardian platform, giving security teams the ability to stop autonomous agents that behave unexpectedly or move beyond their authorised activities.

The capability allows an authorised administrator to terminate an agent where it is running, block it from relaunching on a targeted host or group of hosts, and cut off its access to the enterprise network.

CrowdStrike said the kill switch builds on the visibility Falcon Guardian already provides into agent instructions, communications, and execution. It uses the Falcon sensor, which operates on endpoints, to give security teams a direct means of intervening when an agent goes off course.

The capability initially stops agents at the gateway, with endpoint termination planned for a future release. All actions require an authorised admin and are recorded in an audit trail.

CrowdStrike CEO and founder George Kurtz said giving organisations control over autonomous agents will help accelerate adoption.

“AI safety is how you get the full benefit of AI. When you deploy agents with a kill switch, you stay in control,” Kurtz said in a statement.

“For the first time, security is simultaneously the accelerant and the safety net for technology adoption. The AI Kill Switch puts power in the hands of the people to realise AI safety.”

Everpure CISO Rick Orloff said the capability gave security teams greater confidence to approve wider use of AI agents.

“We want our teams to use AI agents. If one goes off course, the AI Kill Switch gives our security team the final say,” Orloff said.

“It runs on the Falcon sensor we already have, and that's what lets us say yes to more agents and more AI, faster.”

CrowdStrike said the new capability is available now.
