Exclusive: Aussie tech company with links to defence, law enforcement allegedly breached by ransomware attack

The Qilin ransomware-as-a-service operation has listed an Australian company that supplies switchboards to a raft of organisations, including police stations, shopping centres, and defence facilities.

The New South Wales-based Chadwick Switchboards was listed in an October 4 leak post, and while the hackers shared little detail of the incident at the time, Qilin has since published the full dataset on its leak site.

The allegedly compromised data appears to be legitimate and includes accounts and admin data, staff folders, and product data.

Also included in the data are several dozen folders that appear to be named for customers of Chadwick Switchboards. These range from childcare centres to nursing homes, and include several police stations.

Chadwick Switchboards has not responded to Cyber Daily’s request for comment.

Who is Qilin?

Qilin operates under a ransomware-as-a-service model, with affiliates gaining access to its ransomware infrastructure in return for a cut of any ransom payments. Networking giant Cisco recently warned of Qilin activity targeting a vulnerability in its Secure Firewall Management Center software.

The group remains the number one ransomware operator globally at the moment, though its activity has declined since August, when it racked up more than 100 victims. So far in 2026, Qilin has claimed more than 1,000 victims

The group’s most recent Australian victim was the not-for-profit Thorndale Foundation, which confirmed it was investigating an incident earlier in September. The group has claimed several other Australian victims recently; however, details regarding those incidents remain scant.

Who is Chadwick Switchboards?

Based in Smithfield, New South Wales, Chadwick Switchboards manufactures switchboards for several industries, including healthcare, shopping centres, defence, and telecommunications.

The company’s commercial projects include Kareela Shopping Centre, Guildford Leagues Club, and work for Westpac, while it has also worked on projects for Richmond RAAF Base and Garden Island.
