Dragos acquires NetRise and runZero to expand xOT security

Dragos CEO Robert M Lee has also been named chairman of the board, while the company said it will continue to operate independently with its existing leadership.

“Organisations across electric, oil and gas, manufacturing, data centres, and other critical infrastructure sectors need to defend every system that can influence a physical process. That extended environment is xOT. NetRise, runZero, and Dragos defend it together.”

The acquisition of runZero will extend Dragos’ asset visibility and exposure management by incorporating IT, OT, and cloud asset data from existing sources.

NetRise, meanwhile, adds visibility into the firmware and software running on connected devices, identifying risks, including outdated components and hardcoded credentials.

The moves follow Dragos’s acquisition of Phosphorus earlier this year to strengthen visibility and security for connected devices across critical infrastructure and operational networks.

Dragos said the acquisitions will also expand its Intelligence Fabric, adding to the OT telemetry and incident-response data underpinning its platform. Its EmberAI technology will use the expanded dataset to provide faster guidance to security analysts.

Dmitri Alperovitch, co-founder and former CTO of CrowdStrike, will return to the Dragos board alongside new members from Accenture.

“Intrusions into OT networks have become a daily reality for critical infrastructure operators,” Alperovitch said.

“Cyber security for these environments is more than a matter of uptime. It’s about whether the lights stay on and the water stays safe when an adversary attacks.”
