Furniture retailer Nick Scali has said it is investigating a security incident in a disclosure to the Australian Stock Exchange.
“Nick Scali Limited notes that it is currently investigating a security incident,” the company said in a 4:32pm filing with the ASX.
“In light of the security incident, the company elected to take certain systems offline. While we appreciate this may have caused some delays for, and uncertainty with, customers, we are now in the process of bringing those systems offline.”
Nick Scali said it is continuing to process orders and deliveries, but noted that response times to customer inquiries were “slower than normal”.
“At this time, the company does not have any evidence of unauthorised access to our customer data,” Nick Scali said.
There is currently no generally available notice on the company’s website; however, customers who have an account with the retailer have been informed via their account page.
“We’re currently experiencing a system outage with recovery underway,” the customer disclosure said.
“We’re still operating as normal and delivering, however, certain processes have been slowed down, so response times have increased. We ask for your patience during this period, and we will get back to you.”
Nick Scali’s managing director, Anthony Scali, was more candid, however, when speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald.
“The system got attacked, like everyone else,” Scali told the SMH.
“We kept orders going, but I guess the recovery was not as easy as we first thought. Everything’s offline. We’re bringing some components back up now … Shouldn’t be too long.”
As of the time of publishing, no threat actor has claimed responsibility for the incident.
