New cyber intelligence hub reveals fake online stores among Australia’s top scam threats

“In Australia, fake online stores rank among the most prevalent consumer scams tracked by the FPI in July, as cyber criminals increasingly impersonate trusted retailers through fake websites, sponsored social media ads, search results and promotional emails offering products at unusually low prices,” Gen said in a statement.

Gen describes the tool as a “regional weather map for digital risk” where users can explore the cyber criminal trends impacting individual countries, see where and when threat levels rise and fall, and learn how to protect themselves from prevailing threats.

In its current state, the FPI is tracking more than 120 million phishing attacks across 245 countries and territories, with more than 80 per cent of threats categorised as scams or malicious advertising.

“The Fearless Planet Index is a continuously updated cyber safety intelligence hub that transforms billions of real-world security signals from Gen Threat Labs into an accessible view of today’s digital threat landscape,” Alex Arazi, vice president of cyber safety at Gen, told Cyber Daily.

“Similar to the way weather radar helps people understand storms as they develop, the Fearless Planet Index enables people to see where digital risks are emerging, which scams are most active, and how those patterns change over time.”
