LR Reed is a family-owned property management firm based in Melbourne’s CBD. The company has over 30 years of industry experience and offers OC management and development services.
The company was listed on the dark web leak site of the infamous Kairos ransomware group, which claimed to have 335 gigabytes of data from the company.
While Kairos did not outline the cyber incident, the group posted a sample of allegedly stolen data, which includes data appearing to pertain to staff, including names, salary details, a banking document, and a passport. At the time of writing, the group is threatening to publish the allegedly stolen data in just under seven days.
Speaking with Cyber Daily, a spokesperson for LR Reed confirmed that the company was aware of the incident claims and that its team were currently investigating the matter. It also confirmed that customer data was not impacted by the incident, as it was stored in a different location.
LR Reed also said it had notified the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and was working with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on the matter.
Who is Kairos?
Kairos shared details of its first victim in November 2024, and since then, it has claimed attacks on at least 90 others, according to ransomware.live.
According to threat intelligence firm CYJAX, Kairos is active on several Russian-language hacking forums and does not appear to be linked to other hacking groups.
Back in May, Kairos launched a cyber attack on Australian-owned Gregory Jewellers, claiming to have stolen 574 gigabytes of data.
While the group gave no details of the incident, it shared a sample of data containing personal information of clients, internal documents relating to an investigation, customer purchase history, a passport, and more.
Speaking with Cyber Daily, Gregory Jewellers confirmed that a cyber incident had occurred.
