Utility giant Jemena centralises monitoring, cuts costs, and boosts resilience with a major multi-year upgrade.
Energy provider Jemena has deployed Genetec Security Center across nearly 50 critical infrastructure sites nationwide, replacing an ageing surveillance and access control system in a multi-year modernisation program designed to lift compliance, operational efficiency, and asset protection.
The $12.4 billion company, which manages major gas and electricity assets from Queensland to Tasmania, has shifted to a unified platform incorporating video surveillance, access control, automatic licence plate recognition, communications, and remote monitoring capabilities. The move follows a detailed design and implementation program with systems integrator Wilson Security.
“Implementing the Genetec platform has been a significant step forward in strengthening our asset protection and operational resilience,” Fiona Dunk, general manager for resilience and compliance at Jemena, said in a statement.
“Its integrated capabilities have enhanced situational awareness, improved response times, and enabled smarter decision making through centralised monitoring and analytics.”
Jemena’s national footprint has made physical patrols increasingly costly and inefficient. The new system allows operators to run virtual patrols, monitor cameras, manage intercoms, and oversee alerts from a single location, reducing vehicle use and carbon emissions.
Dunk said the shift delivers “long-term value through scalability, efficiency, and a future-ready security infrastructure for the increasingly complex environment we are working in now and in the future”.
William Glasson, national sales manager at Genetec, said the company is “proud to partner with Jemena to play its part in securing Australia’s critical infrastructure assets and adopting best practice technologies to support a litany of stringent regulatory standards, designed to fortify resilience, and unyielding reliability”.
Wilson Security, which manages Jemena’s long-running security integration work, said the overhaul was the result of a deep, collaborative approach.
“By working closely together, we’ve built a deep understanding of Jemena’s unique security needs, enabling us to support their goals with tailored, forward-looking technology solutions,” Carla Scuderi, key account manager at Wilson Security, said.
