Australian software firm VETtrack has revealed that it suffered a cyber incident impacting its network, after reporting outages.
VETtrak is a student management system owned by ReadyTech that’s based in the Docklands of Melbourne, Victoria.
On 16 October, the company announced that it was suffering an outage impacting “multiple services”.
By 17 October, the company had identified that a cyber attack had impacted the VETtrack student management platform.
“We have isolated the platform as a precautionary measure and have engaged external experts to assist with managing the issue,” it said.
“Our technical teams and specialist experts are actively investigating the nature and cause of this issue and working diligently to restore services. Customer access to the platform will remain temporarily unavailable. We expect this to continue throughout Friday (17th October).
“We are working diligently to restore services as quickly and carefully as possible. We will keep you regularly updated on progress. The next update will be provided here at 1:00pm AEDT.”
The company said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, but has not yet disclosed the nature of the incident or if any student or other data has been impacted.
Additionally, no threat actors or ransomware organisations have yet claimed the incident.
VETtrack denied Cyber Daily’s requests for additional commentary regarding the threat actor or the nature of the cyber incident.
While not yet confirmed by Cyber Daily, an anonymous source has hinted that VETtrak clients may have suffered potential data losses as a result of the incident.
The source also said that VETtrak had received a ransom note from the Lynx ransomware gang. The threat group is yet to publicly claim the cyber incident.
