Japanese brewing giant Asahi says no personal data was lost, but Japanese service operations are suspended.
Japanese beer-maker Asahi has disclosed that it is experiencing considerable disruption to its operations following a cyber attack.
“We are actively investigating the cause and working to restore operations; however, there is currently no estimated timeline for recovery,” Asahi said in a widely reported statement.
“The system failure is limited to our operations within Japan.
“None of Asahi’s manufacturing operations in Europe, including its UK beer supply, are impacted by this incident.”
Asahi said that no personal or customer data was compromised in the attack. What has been compromised are its ordering and shipping operations, which have been suspended.
The company has not identified the attacker, and no threat actor has taken responsibility for the incident.
Asahi is Japan’s largest brewer and has a broad international footprint, including Grolsch, Peroni, and Carlton & United Breweries in Melbourne. Despite this, half of the company’s sales are made in Japan.
The company employs 30,000 people.
