Western Sydney University told Cyber Daily it was thankful for the assistance of NSW Police in the takedown of the notorious hacker.
The NSW Police Cybercrime Squad has arrested the hacker believed to be behind the wave of cyber attacks on Western Sydney University.
The university has suffered a number of cyber attacks starting in 2021, with the most recent cyber attack occurring this year when a third party suffered a data incident.
According to reports, the hacker first began her criminal activity against the university to secure unauthorised discount parking on campus, before escalating to changing academic results and targeting the wider university.
The cyber attacks involved unauthorised access and data exfiltration, university infrastructure misuse, system compromise and threats to sell student data.
Now, NSW Police have announced that the hacker behind the cyber attacks has been arrested and charged as part of Strike Force Docker.
“It is estimated that hundreds of university staff and students were affected by these incidents,” said NSW Police.
“The matter was referred to State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad, [which] established Strike Force Docker to investigate.
“Strike force detectives, working closely with Western Sydney University, the AFP Joint Policing Cyber Coordination Centre, JCP3 and cyber security experts, identified the alleged hacker was a former student of the university.
“Following extensive inquiries into the former student, about 8.20am yesterday (Wednesday, 25 June 2025), strike force detectives – with assistance from Northwest Metropolitan Region Operational Support Group – executed a search warrant in Kingswood.”
Police added that they secured computer equipment and mobile devices at the hacker’s home and arrested her.
She was taken to St Mary’s Police Station and charged with 20 offences, including:
Ten counts of access/modify restricted data held in computer.
Four counts of unauthorised modification of data with intent to cause impairment.
Two counts of unauthorised function with intent serious offence (penalty).
Possess data with intent to commit computer offence.
Dishonestly obtain property by deception.
Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.
Attempt to dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.
Demand with menaces intend obtain gain/cause loss.
She was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday, 26 Jun 2025). The Strike Force Docker investigations are ongoing.
Responding to Cyber Daily’s request, Western Sydney University said the cyber attacks had significantly impacted the university but was unable to comment further.
“Western Sydney University has been working with NSW Police to assist their investigations. These cyber incidents have had a significant impact on the university community, and we are thankful for the support of NSW Police,” a Western Sydney University spokesperson told Cyber Daily.
“As this matter is now before the court, the university cannot provide further comment.”
