A new ransomware group with just nine victims to its name has listed the Ascot Vale Health Group as a victim on its darknet leak site.

The Global ransomware group listed the medical centre on a 7 June leak post, but it has so far not listed how much data it has allegedly stolen or what kind of data may have been compromised.

All that Global has listed so far is when the data will be published, which is within one day at the time of publishing, at about 9am Australian time on 11 June.

The Ascot Vale Health Group has not yet responded to Cyber Daily’s request for comment.

Global appears to be a new operation, with its first victim – another Victorian healthcare provider, not-for-profit private hospital Epworth HealthCare – listed on 2 June. Little is known about the group, and though it says on its leak site that it is not yet a ransomware-as-a-service operation, it’s clearly intending to become one.

The group features a slick marketing video for its locker platform, promising potential affiliates 24/7 support, weekly updates, and “the fastest, most customisable locker on the market”.

According to the video, when Global does switch to RaaS operations, it will only take a 15 per cent cut of ransomware payments.

A sample image of a leak post in the video is dated 29 April, suggesting that the gang has been operating since at least that date and likely earlier. Global claims its ransomware is undetectable by EDR systems and capable of encrypting remote disks locally.

Located in the Melbourne suburb of the same name, the Ascot Vale Health Group offers a wide range of medical services, including aged care, vaccinations, minor procedures, and general medical support and advice. The medical centre employs 10 doctors and two nurses, alongside a podiatrist and a clinical psychologist.
