Breaking news and updates daily.
Infamous dark and clear web hacking forum BreachForums is back, announcing that the site has been rebuilt to prevent future takedowns.
Last month, BreachForums suffered an almost two-week-long outage, which was believed to be the result of a global law enforcement takedown.
“We would like to provide an update on recent events over the past two weeks. In or around April 15, we received confirmation of information that we had been suspecting since day [one] – a MyBB [zero]-day,” a BreachForums spokesman said.
“This confirmation came through trusted contacts that we are in touch with, which revealed that our forum is subject to infiltration by various agencies and other global law enforcement bodies.”
Now, forum owner and notorious threat actor ShinyHunters has announced its return, complete with a back-end rewrite to prevent a repeat incident.
“We are pleased to report that we have successfully identified and patched the PHP exploit that had affected our previous backend. Following this, we have completed a full rewrite of the backend to ensure improved security, stability, and performance moving forward,” they said.
“During our audit and rebuilding process, we also discovered vulnerabilities in several third-party plugins. As a precaution, these plugins have been temporarily disabled while we rewrite and secure them. This includes features such as the Account Upgrade System and Colored Username Changes.
“These features will be reinstated shortly once they meet our new security standards.”
ShinyHunters has also asked users to re-register with new usernames and passwords. However, Cyber Daily has observed that the sign-up process has issues, likely due to high traffic and issues with old login details.
“If you previously held a rank on BreachForums, please contact us directly. We are working to restore all verified ranks from the earlier platform to ensure a smooth transition for our trusted members,” added ShinyHunters.
“We appreciate your patience, vigilance, and continued support during this time. Our focus remains on building a more secure, resilient platform for the community.”
Already, at least two posts containing allegedly leaked data have appeared on the forum, all from one user called “Vaquill4”.
Law enforcement takedowns have plagued BreachForums in the past, having been taken down last year, with the owner at the time, Baphomet, being arrested.
