The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has restored services after an outage that saw customers unable to use bank transfers and PayID transactions in both the Netbank and the CommBank app.

Uptime tracker Downdetector noted two major outages within the last 24 hours: one at around 11pm last night and a second that began at around 11am this morning, 30 May.

Both lasted between two and three hours and drew many complaints on both social media and Downdetector.

“Yeah transfering funds doesn’t work and sending doesn’t work and the question bot down,” said one customer.

Another said: “My brother has an expensive doctor’s appointment today and the money for it is in my Netbank Saver, along with my money.”

“There’ll be no compensation for this either.”

Cyber Daily reached out to CommBank to inquire if the outage was related to a cyber incident shortly before 1pm.

“Some customers may be unable to make transfers between accounts or pay someone using PayID or BSB and account number in NetBank and the CommBank app,” a CommBank spokesperson said.

“Payments using cards and ATMs are fully available. We are working urgently to fix this issue, and we thank customers for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience.”

At around 2:15pm, CommBank announced that the issue had been addressed.

“We have fixed an issue affecting some transfers from CommBank accounts,” CommBank’s spokesperson said.

“Customers can now make transfers between accounts and pay using PayID or BSB and account number in NetBank and the CommBank app. Payments using cards and ATMs were not affected. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank customers for their patience.”

CommBank has not yet shared the cause of the outage and has not yet responded to Cyber Daily’s request for further comment.

That said, CommBank’s incidents page has now been updated with two sessions of planned maintenance for both Sunday, 1 June, and Saturday, 7 June. Some services will be unavailable for several hours on these dates.
