A second regional adidas location has disclosed a cyber incident, revealing that customer data was exposed after an unauthorised user accessed its systems.
Adidas is a famous German sportswear brand with a massive international customer base. Across 50 countries, adidas’ adiClub membership program has 303 million members. Additionally, 41 per cent of sneaker owners in the US own adidas.
Adidas Türkiye (adidas Turkey) has informed its customers via email that unauthorised access has led to personal data being compromised.
“Dear customers, we want to inform you about a situation that may have affected your personal data,” the company said.
According to the email, personal data, including full names, phone numbers, dates of birth, gender details and email addresses, were accessed. However, adidas Turkey said that no financial information, such as credit card details, was accessed.
According to Hürriyet Daily News, a Turkey-based publication, customers who were exposed were those who had contacted adidas customer service.
The incident closely follows a similar message sent out by adidas Korea on 16 May, which revealed that the same kinds of data were accessed by an unauthorised user.
The cyber attack on adidas Korea also affected customers who had contacted customer service, and no financial data was affected.
Neither adidas Turkey nor adidas Korea has revealed the nature of the incident, nor have they disclosed how many individuals were affected.
In both instances, Adidas advised that customers take care and keep an eye out for phishing attempts or other forms of scams and cyber attacks. However, at this stage, there have been no reported cases of the exfiltrated data being used.
Adidas has not revealed whether the two cases are connected.
Cyber Daily has not observed any threat actors taking responsibility for the incident.
