A threat actor has claimed to have exfiltrated a customer database from Australian flooring and service protection provider Protecta Australia.
The company appeared on BreachForums on 6 September after a threat actor going by the name “agreindex” listed a company database for sale.
“Hello BreachForums Community. Today, I’m selling the database protecta.com.au. Thanks for reading and enjoy,” said agreindex.
According to the threat actor, the breach occurred this month, and the exfiltrated database contains the data of 74373 customers; however, this has not been verified.
Agreindex also posted a sample of the data and priced the database for sale at 100 Monero (XMR), a cryptocurrency commonly used by cyber criminals for transactions. This equates to roughly $25,700.
The threat actor also requested that Protecta reach out and contact them for the permanent deletion of the stolen data, which is undoubtedly a ploy to begin ransom negotiations.
Cyber Daily reached out to Protecta for additional commentary but is yet to receive a response. Cyber Daily will provide an update as the story develops.
