Australian and Singaporean ministers met in Adelaide on 27 July for the 15th Meeting of the Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee, which saw attendees welcoming “strong early progress” in the initial phase of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) signed by the two nations in October 2025.
While much of the meeting focused on economic development, the net zero transition, and ensuring peace and stability at home and throughout the broader region, AI innovation and cyber security cooperation were also on the agenda.
According to a joint communique released after the meeting, the ministers “reflected on the commitment under the CSP 2.0 to collaborate in future frontier domains, to develop innovative and future-oriented solutions in emerging areas, including digital and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), and welcomed progress made in 2026”.
“Practical approaches on AI will realise the economic opportunities of emerging technologies and shape the development of international standards and governance frameworks, promoting safe, secure and trustworthy AI adoption in the region,” the ministers said.
The communique also noted that bilateral cooperation between the two nations is expected to be strengthened via the upcoming Cyber and Digital Dialogue, which will be held at the end of July in Australia.
The ministers also said that cyber security cooperation was becoming “increasingly critical to national security, regional and international stability” and welcomed a renewal of the two nations’ memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cyber security cooperation signed earlier this year.
“The renewed MOU will enhance collaboration on cyber security through: information sharing, training and the exchange of best practices on regulatory, policy and operational matters; joint cyber security exercises; promoting innovation, trade and investment; regional confidence building measures; and regional capacity building, including at the ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence,” the communique said.
