OpenAI to create LinkedIn-style hiring platform

OpenAI has launched an AI-powered LinkedIn-style hiring platform that is set to rival the business-oriented social media platform.

In a blog post this week, OpenAI CEO of applications Fidji Simo said the platform would assist workers in connecting with businesses, particularly when it comes to AI-related roles.

“If you’re a business looking to hire an AI-savvy employee, or you just need help with a specific task, finding the right person can be hit-or-miss,” said Simo.

“The OpenAI jobs platform will have knowledgeable, experienced candidates at every level, and opportunities for anyone looking to put their skills to use. And we’ll use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer.”

Simo also said the development of the jobs platform, which is part of a wider rollout of new applications, is key in the company’s effort to combat job displacement caused by AI.

“AI will … be disruptive. Jobs will look different, companies will have to adapt, and all of us – from shift workers to CEOs – will have to learn how to work in new ways,” she said.

“At OpenAI, we can’t eliminate that disruption. But what we can do is help more people become fluent in AI and connect them with companies that need their skills, to give people more economic opportunities.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said earlier this year that AI could eliminate entire job categories, seemingly an admission that the technology is unlikely to be beneficial to the many, but great at cutting costs for the few.

“Some areas, again, I think (will be) just like totally, totally gone,” he said, referring to customer support roles.

“That’s a category where I just say, you know what, when you call customer support, you’re on target and AI, and that’s fine … Now you call one of those things and AI answers.”

The company has also said that it will be looking to upskill the workforce in “AI fluency”, with the launch of its online OpenAI Academy platform, which it plans to first launch in late 2025.

OpenAI expects to launch the jobs platform by mid-2026.
