The Legal Practice Board of Western Australia released a short statement regarding its ongoing response to a May ransomware attack that took its systems offline and compromised some of its client data.

“Following a detailed review of data impacted by the cyber incident, on 1 October 2025 the Board commenced notifying individuals whose health, identity and financial information was involved,” the Board said in a recent newsletter.

“The Board is continuing to assess whether any other information was involved and will issue further notifications as required. The cyber incident page on the Board’s website will continue to be updated, including when the data review and notification process is complete.”

Despite the nature of the data involved, the Board continues to believe “there is a low risk of misuse of the data involved in the incident”.

The Board fell victim to the Dire Wolf ransomware operation in May, when the hackers claimed to have stolen 300 gigabytes of data. The Board said in October that it had “not detected any disclosure of data other than the data disclosed in May”.

“This data was also removed within 24 hours following takedown efforts. The board continues to monitor the dark web for any further disclosures and will take appropriate action as required.”

Despite this, Dire Wolf appears to have published the full data set in November. However, due to an injunction, Cyber Daily is unable to report on the nature of the data exposed by the cyber-attack.

The Board also said it is continuing to work on restoring its online services.

“We are continuing to bring further Service Hub functions back online, with Continuing Professional Development again able to be administered via the Service Hub,” the Board said.

“The Find a Practitioner tool and ancillary Service Hub functions will be restored in the coming weeks as we complete the issue of renewed practising certificates. At that stage our system restoration will be complete, returning the last of our online functions.”
